It is very tempting, in the role of teacher, to talk at our children without thinking that they have anything of value to contribute back. When we listen to them, we discover who they are and how they think. We find out what is important to them and that they might have different opinions and ideas to us. As they are growing up they have concerns about many things, and if we do not give them the time to share these thoughts, they will go to someone else. That other person may well not share our values and therefore guide our child in another direction. This topic discusses how we learn to listen and what to do with the concerns and fears our kids might express.
