It is amazing how quickly kids learn how to handle money if we give them some and tell them what it needs to be used for.  They soon learn how far it goes and that when it is spent there is no more available until the next time they receive some. Kids can be given money at a very early age.  Handling money is a great way to learn how to take responsibility for valuable things.  You can further their development of responsibility by allowing your kids to do some grocery shopping with your money.  This way they are handling someone else’s money.  Kids need to understand that money doesn’t grow on trees.  If you spend money liberally on your children they will not understand the fiscal restrictions that are often necessary to meet a budget.
