Training for Military Parents
|
|
In a revealing book called ‘Military Brats’, the author, Mary Edwards Wertsch, describes in detail how extreme autocracy permeates the home of many military families, to the extent that children have few good early childhood memories. Many have undergone psychological counseling. With statistics showing an alarmingly high divorce rate amongst military families, the causes must be addressed. Our objective is to focus on the effects of autocratic parenting, and the results of family break-up on children. How can you arrive home and become a parent rather than a Drill Sergeant all in the same day? Changing roles on a daily basis is like a juggling act, but it needs to happen. Let’s show you why it’s necessary, and how you can practice it.
